First Name Game Challenge Answers!

Six Degrees of Elizabeth

With our first challenge, Six Degrees of Elizabeth, we stumped many people. But don’t worry, there will be other opportunities. Lou @ Mer de Noms was very close with her answer for Geena. One of the links from Geena to Elizabeth happens to be this week’s Spotlight Failure to Launch Name. This name is also one of the missing links from Tina to Elizabeth.

Perhaps Geena was a stretch, because Tina and Gina share a short form, Ina, which leads back the same etymology trail. And what name is on this etymology trail? Bettina.

Here are all the answers:

  • Lisette – ANSWER Diminutive of Elisabeth, an Elizabeth variant
  • Bözsi  – ANSWER Diminutive of Erzsebet, Hungarian form of Elizabeth
  • Ysabel – ANSWER Medieval Spanish form of Isabel, medieval form of Elizabeth used in Spain, Portugal, and France
  • Liisi – ANSWER Finnish diminutive of Elisabet, Scandinavian and Finnish form of Elizabeth
  • Annelies – ANSWER Elaborate form of Lies, German and Dutch diminutive of Elisabeth, an Elizabeth variant
  • Tina – ANSWER Diminutive of Bettina, the German diminutive of Elizabeth
  • Geena – ANSWER Variant of Gina, with short form Ina, which is also the short form for Tina, see above.

With that out-of-the-way, stay tuned for the story on Bettina.

  1. That’s a really interesting game! Don’t know that I’ll be very good at it, but I look forward to seeing more challenges in the future. 🙂
